Anita Pratap is an Award-winning Journalist, Author and Moderator.
Anita is the founder and convenor of “Oslo Diplomatic Circle” that organises events and briefings on Norwegian society, economy and policies. Non-political and not-for-profit, it aims to promote cultural exchange and understanding between foreign Ambassadors and Norwegian civil society.
Anita is actively involved in “Arendalsuka”, Norway’s prestigious annual ‘Festival of Democracy’. She curates and moderates Arendalsuka’s flagship annual event in English, “Global Outlook”, always opened by Norway’s Foreign Minister. In cooperation with the Mayor of Arendal, she organizes and moderates the “Arendalsuka Ambassadors’ Roundtable” in the city’s historic Gamle Rådhus Hall. The Foreign Minister is the keynote speaker and participates in a discussion on topical issues with a panel of Ambassadors. Professionals, members of the public and the local business community attend this annual event.
Anita is a former CNN Bureau Chief for South Asia and correspondent for Time Magazine. She is currently a contributing editor for the magazine “The Week” magazine.
Her book “Island of Blood” published by Penguin was an instant bestseller and sold out in six days. Her book “Unsung” profiled nine ordinary Indians that have made a remarkable positive difference to their society through their grit, courage and hard work. It was included in the curriculum for a leadership program in the premier educational institution, Indian Institute of Management.
Anita has received several awards, including the prestigious American George Polk Award for her coverage in CNN of the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul. She won India’s Chameli Devi Jain Award for her “sensitive portrayal of the human condition”.
Anita has served on the Advisory Boards of several organizations including the Lausanne-based Women’s International Network and the Vienna-headquartered Women Without Borders.
Having worked in New York, Atlanta, Tokyo, Riyadh, New Delhi, Vienna and Oslo, she is a speaker at global conferences organized by the UN, governments, conglomerates, universities and think tanks on media, terrorism, war, inequality, diversity, politics, environment and women’s rights.
